The plan was that once we got settled in Spain to have another litter with Oliver and Lulu, but as Lulu continued to be unwell we decided that it would not be wise to put her through that, so we had her spayed. That left us with a problem ... we wanted to show dogs here in Spain, but both our dogs were now too old ... so we decided to buy a bitch in. We got in touch with some of our friends in England and eventually, through George Earle, purchased Sophie (Shaz's Ruby Lady) sired by Judael's Dream Maker.

 

We waited with great anticipation for her to arrive ... which was a little longer than normal as she had to have her rabies injections etc before she was exported here to Spain. George was very good, sorting out all the paperwork and keeping us informed as to what was going on. Eventually we got a phone call from the handling agent letting us know that Sophie was arriving at Barcelona airport in Sept 2002.

 

A couple of days later we arrived at the airport to be told that the plane had landed and she would be coming through shortly. After what seemed like ages, stamping this form and stamping that paperwork (paying some more money too!) we went to the collection area and she came through in a little wooden crate on a fork-lift truck.

 

She was adorable in real life ... even better than the photos. We brought her home and she was as good as gold on the 4 hour drive back to Oliva. When we arrived home, she walked in as if she owned the place ! She integrated with the other dogs quite quickly, but it was Oliver that was her special pal ... they loved playing together and would spend hours chasing each other around the garden.

 

Sophie continued to grow and was looking very promising as a show dog and also we were planning to have a litter off her when she was older. Then when her second teeth came through, she had developed an undershot mouth. We got in touch with George Earle who suggested a couple of things we could try to remedy the situation, but no, she was definitely undershot ... so no showing and no litters.

 

Sophie has matured into a lovely bitch with very eye-catching markings and a superb temperament. She is very easy going and gives us a lot of pleasure as a pet dog. She is just over 6 years old and has a new playmate ... Jerry Lee !!
