Computers
We had a computer shop in the UK for 5 years before we moved out to Spain and have built, repaired, reconfigured, upgraded and set up hundreds of PCs. Out here I have built quite a few new systems for friends .. and friends of friends etc. also repaired and sorted out plenty too. You will not be entrusting your computer to *someone that knows about PCs because he mended his mate's once* I do know what I'm doing ... even if I say so myself !
I can build you a brand new system for less than you can pay in the shops and it will all be in English with a UK keyboard. I have over the years used AMD processors ... in fact since 1997 ... and found them to be cheaper, cooler and faster than Intel. I still use these now in my builds and have found the Athlon 64 Dual Core processors very good indeed. But I can build to any specification that you wish ... just tell me what you want and I will give you a price and advise you if the components will work together.
Mainboards are usually either Asrock, Asus or Gigabyte and fitted with Kingston memory.
Cases come in a wide variety ... it depends if you want neon lights illuminating the interior seen through a window or you just want a plain case, though most are in black or black and silver nowadays ... putty coloured ones are few and far between today. I usually fit a memory card reader (for your digital camera card) and gives three USB2 ports on the front of the case which saves you fiddling round the back of the tower to plug webcams, usb memory sticks and the like.
Hard drives can be any size you like (250 gig and up) and all systems come with a DVD writer / re-writer as standard and burning software.
Keyboard and mouse are UK format and wireless.
Monitor can be anything you wish, but the widescreen format seems to be the norm today with 19 inch widescreen TFT models having built-in speakers being the best value.
At present I install Windows XP Linux or Windows 7 in English as the operating system. I also install the things you will need such as Adobe reader, Java, Winzip etc. to save you having to download them.
I can't really list any exact specs together with prices as things in the computing industry change so quickly and such a system while competetive today ... in a few months would seem expensive / or be using dated components ... that is how quickly things move.
I remember back in our shop in the UK there was a chap that used to come in fairly frequently and take the spec sheets for new PCs ... he was quite knowledgable but was always waiting for something new to come out ... a new board with a different chipset, different type of memory, faster processors etc. etc. He must have been coming in for 2 years and never bought a system, always worried about buying something which was going to be superceded ... what a sad guy ... I bet he still hasn't bought anything ! You must understand there are only 2 types of computer .... prototypes .... and obsolete ones !
All the hardware carries a RTB 12 or 24 month warranty. Just give me a ring on one of the numbers on the contact page of this site or e-mail me and I will get right back to you.
